I is for INNOVATIVE CHICAGO ARTWORK #AtoZChallenge

For this year's challenge, my theme is The Fun in Writing. Each of my 26 posts for April is aimed at illustrating fun parts of an author's day. A writer doesn't only write. Creating a story or an essay requires research, revision, editing, and lots and lots of coffee and chocolate.

What can be more fun than researching background information for a novel, and then spending your free time checking out the architecture, sculptures, and artwork of the Windy City? Which do you recognize? (Answers below.)

I love this picture because of its unusual vantage point,
but I honestly cannot remember where in Chicago I was standing when I took the photograph!
Anyone have a guess?

    1. Yes, Chicago is a good destination to include on your to-travel-to list. Much to see, eat, and experience.

  3. I've only been to Chicago twice and it was in college. All the art majors went to visit the various museums, so I didn't see much of the city.

    1. I haven't been there for several years, but I worked in the Loop for a year, in another lifetime when Daley Plaza was still Civic Center Plaza and the Picasso was brand new!

  5. Beautiful photos. I should probably take more while doing research for my books, though most passers-by already think I'm a little off when talking aloud to characters who'd be there in different circumstances :-) Good luck with the rest of the AtoZchallenge.

  7. I only recognize #2. I've been to Chicago once - in January and I've never been so cold as I was there. We had to watch out for falling icicles! I loved the Chicago Public Library. That's where I'd go to write if I lived in Chicago.

    1. I spent many hours in the Chicago Library, but it was the old one on Washington Street. I did see the new one around 2007 and did some research there for a novel. I photographed about 25 pages of newspaper stories, then was told they don't charge for photos! Music to an amateur genealogist's ears.

  8. Gail, these photos are fantastic. I've never been to America and didn't pick any of these landmarks. However, being a lover of all things red, I loved Calder's Flamingo. xx Rowena

    1. Interesting to hear so many have not been to Chicago, but there are so many places I haven't been. I have a book entitled "1000 Places To See Before You Die". At least I can read about places I'll never visit. I hope these photographs gave you a sense of the town.
