FOOD FOR THOUGHT
My daily #AtoZ posts combine two concepts in under-300-words per day:
an appealing food choice along with thoughts that spring to mind.

For a Wisconsin girl, born and bred, ICE CREAM is the first thing that comes to mind for the letter "I". Wisconsin is the Dairy State. My hometown holds the top claim for "inventing" the ice cream sundae. The story goes that a glass dish salesman ordered canoe-shaped dishes for serving the new concoction of ice cream drizzled with chocolate syrup. Originally served only on Sunday, then everyday, the spelling changed along with the new dishes to "sundae" and . . .
that's the rest of the story.
If you drive to my hometown, 45 minutes south of Green Bay or 224 miles north of Chicago, you will see a historical marker in Central Park where band concerts are still held. Main Street in town is totally changed. The ice cream parlor where the first sundae was served is no longer there; it closed in 1927. But you can still get a great ice cream cone at the Washington House where all the memorabilia of the town is now housed.
Change is inevitable but that doesn't mean we always have to like it. Change sometimes makes me sad. But then, there's ICE CREAM. And just the thought of a macadamia nut scoop over a double chocolate scoop makes me smile . . . every time.

I do love ice cream... especially home made on 4th of July :)
ReplyDeleteActually, I love all things dairy - and should really put a trip to Wisconsin on my bucket list.
So much to see in Wisconsin; I, of course, am partial to the eastern side where I grew up along the shore of Lake Michigan. But then there's Wisconsin Dells, and so much more!
DeleteI'm not really an ice cream gal...I prefer a dollop of fresh cream on a slice of apple crumble...
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to nuts, cashew nuts are my favorite!
Nuts are a portion of my daily diet, mostly macadamia and either cashews or pistachios. Fresh cream on apple crumble sounds perfect for a snack!
DeleteWe've been known to ride hundreds of miles to check out a new place for apple pie & ice cream. We also have two FAVORITE spots for ice cream. One in DE and one in NY (just discovered this summer on our travels). Rich, creamy....yum!
ReplyDeleteThen the was the search for a traditional banana split. We found it at Disney Springs (Marketplace, or whatever they are calling it this week) at Ghirardelli's. Oh my!!!
I: Isla Mujeres & Indiana

Theme: Oh, the places we will go!
Oh my!! is right, Donna. After all, what is apple pie without ice cream? Except for those who prefer cheese on top, another dairy product.
DeleteThat there is a banana split, one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteWe used to go to Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour in Chicgo, and on more than one occasion I finished one of their belly busters. (see menu here: http://farrellsusa.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/The_Parlour_3.pdf)
Off to check out your belly busters, John. Thanks for stopping to share the link . . . here comes 5 more pounds!
DeleteOh my, again . . . A Monster Volcano with 30 scoops of ice cream . . . that is definitely a belly buster at Farrells!
