VOG - Volcanic Ash-like fog #AlohaFriday

Sunset "vog" at Turtle Bay on O'ahu

VOG is not an acronym for a hotel chain or a cruise line in Hawai'i.

The term "vog" describes the atmospheric haze - a lung-tickling fog, caused by Big Island's Kilauea volcanic eruptions of the Big Island's Kilauea.

Although it makes breathing uncomfortable for some, it provides beautiful sunsets for all.

  2. I do love beautiful sunsets but I'd never before thought of all the people suffering with the vog so I can gaze at a red sky.

  4. Gosh, I'd heard of smog but never vog, maybe because there're no volcanoes around here. Lovely sunset.

  5. @mooderino yes, on the news here in Hawaii they do use the official term VOG to describe the weather condition.
