Flat Mary Day 8 Diamond Head cont. 2/6

View from top of Diamond Head

Safety Warning

We went up even more steps to the top of Diamond Head. Then we could see all around the Island.

I am pointing to the pink Royal Hawaiian Hotel down on Waikiki Beach.

This is a bunker like the one we crawled through to see the Pacific Ocean. We didn’t have to crawl under the low part where I am standing.

The wind was blowing. Some people were pulling their jackets tight around themselves because they were cold. The sun felt warm on my face and I didn’t feel cold at all. Auntie said I have thick blood because I live in Minnesota. I’m not sure what that means.

After we took pictures and rested for a little while, we started to hike back down the mountain. Diamond Head crater is the youngest part of the Koˋolau Mountain range that extends all along the windward side (east side) of Oˋahu.

There were No Smoking Prevent Fire signs along the trail. When it doesn’t rain, the dry foliage in the crater could catch on fire. A big warning sign on the trail fence said Hazardous Cliffs, Stay Behind Railings. It was okay for me to touch the rock wall of the tunnel. I stayed behind the railing at all times, though.
